When we start a new game, we are choosing more than the world we are about to inhabit… we’re also selecting the character we will be experiencing this story with. We know going into it that we’re going to take them on a challenging road that they may not have preferred to take… a path that is full of battles they wouldn’t have faced otherwise that’s designed push them to their limits and force them to grow. But we aren’t sending them off on this adventure as some form of punishment… this is a voyage we will be taking together as partners who are equally invested in pushing through the valley of the shadow of death and getting to the finish line.
The Lord chose each of us for the specific adventure we are on, with full knowledge of all the challenges we will face. But He doesn’t send us into these battles alone… He actively works in us and through us, using these circumstances to bring us into contact with those who need help, accomplishing victories we could never achieve on our own. No matter how difficult our journey gets, Christ is an understanding co-op partner who played this exact same game, enduring the same pain and sorrow we feel while holding this controller in His nail-scarred hands. And if we place our trust in Him, He won’t let go of our hands until we safely reach the other side.
You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away: fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:9b-10
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
