Billy Bowman Strengths

Bowman has excellent ball skills for the safety position. He does a good job of tracking the ball in the air and then going to attack the catch point. He has plenty of ball production in his career, with the ability to come down with an interception or a pass defended. His instincts and coordination give him the chance to take the ball away.

He is a good athlete, who moves well. Bowman has good quickness to start plays, but also has solid long speed. This gives him good range when he is covering deep zones. He has solid agility, which shows up in his man-to-man coverage. Bowman will fit in athletically at the next level for a safety.

His ability to do several things asked of safeties at a high level is impressive. He can play good in deep zone coverage, whether that is split zone or single-high. Bowman can also play robber zones underneath if asked. He does well in man-to-man coverage and can even keep up with receivers. Bowman can play the nickel spot if asked.

Billy Bowman Weaknesses

Bowman is undersized for the NFL, as he stands at just 5-foot-10 and 192 pounds. He has a pretty filled out frame, which is a good thing, but also leaves not much room for growth. Bowman can struggle to shed blocks, but also has his troubles against bigger targets. This is especially true because he has short arms that measure under 30 inches.

His tackling is inconsistent at best. He could have better form tackling to help him miss less tackles at the next level. His size will limit him, with his play strength and length making it harder on him. When he does get tackles, it isn’t with much force and usually is by taking out opponents’ legs.

He is willing in run support, but he isn’t always able to make an impact. Bowman shows good pursuit of the football, but can struggle to shed blocks or elude them to get to the ball carrier. If he is able to get through traffic to make plays on the ball, Bowman’s tackling inconsitency can allow bigger gains than necessary.
