  • The Sinclair dynasty has produced another interesting new gadget
  • Grant Sinclair is set to launch the GamerCard, a gift card-sized console, in stores worldwide
  • For now, it’s available via the website and comes packaged with a surprisingly beefy processor

If there’s one thing to be said for the British, it’s that we’re a nation of inventors. It’s just that it usually comes in the form of wacky gadgets straight out of Wallace & Gromit nowadays. As can be attested to by Sir Clive Sinclair and his strange, but innovative inventions, a torch his son Grant has picked up. Now, the latest gadget the Sinclair dynasty has introduced is none other than the GamerCard.

Somewhat vague name aside, the GamerCard is quite an interesting new design. The size and shape of a traditional supermarket gift card, this device is a scaled-down Raspberry Pi that comes packed with a suite of arcade-style classics already loaded.

Now, we could list all the various technical specs, but it’s all pretty straightforward. Strengthened glass screen, sandwichboard construction, stereo speakers and a rather beefy 64-bit Raspberry Pi Zero 2W with its own Quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor.

While at first glance the GamerCard seems as scoff-worthy as the infamous Sinclair Cycle, much like that this gift card-sized gadget might be more than it seems on the surface. Being powered by Raspberry Pi, of course, means that it’s infinitely customisable with all manner of additional apps.

Meanwhile, the construction and relatively cheap price (£125) has many people aflutter about whether or not this will prove to be a great device for players who are used to mobile and want to get into retro gaming.

With plans to bring the GamerCard to the aforementioned gift card racks, you may very well soon see one of these at a supermarket near you!

If you want to find out what else there is out there gadget-wise for mobile gamers, well, we recently covered the FishSticks Fortnite Phone Holder, which might not be as groundbreaking, but certainly does what it says it will on the tin.
