For the 2024 season, he caught 55 passes for 834 yards and six touchdowns. He played well, but the Aggies won just four games.
Following the season, Royals declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day-two pick.
Jalen Royals Strengths
Royals is a great athlete for the wide receiver position. He has great acceleration at the start of the play and gets to top speed quickly. When he gets to top speed, he has the opportunity to pull away from defenders, showcasing it as one of his strengths and presenting a good deep threat. He also has good agility, changing directions well and leaving defenders behind. Royals has good body control as well.
He has great route-running ability. While he can work on his releases at the line of scrimmage, once he gets past that he can get in and out of his cuts quickly. Royals showed the ability to run a decent number of routes as well. He should be able to create separation at the next level pretty well.
When the ball is in his hands, Royals has the chance to make plays. He uses his acceleration to pull away from defenders once the ball is in his possession. Royals can pick up plenty of yardage because of his speed as well. In the open field, Royals shows good elusiveness and vision as well to maximize plays. He has experience as a kick returner, which shows up when he has the ball in his hands with space to work with.
Jalen Royals Weaknesses
Royals has just ok size and play strength for the position. He was listed at 6-foot and 205 pounds at Utah State. Royals doesn’t have the biggest catch radius. He has more room to fill out his frame in order to deal with the physicality of the NFL level. If he can do that without losing his movement abilities, he could be a better all-around receiver.
He won’t offer much as a run blocker for an NFL team. Royals has trouble sustaining blocks because of his lack of play strength. He can add strength, but he can also improve his technique to help him be a more consistent blocker. If Royals puts more effort in, he can become a decent blocker.
As a pass-catcher, Royals could play through contact better. That starts at the beginning of the rep, as he can play through press coverage better. He can beat it with physicality and releases, which will take some work. Royals will need to play through contact throughout the rep, as he can struggle to make contested catches.
