Things are heating up at Strange Scaffold. The indie studio behind CLICKOLDING has revealed its latest title, Co-Op Kaiju Horror Cooking, a frantic online multiplayer horror game that launches July 29 on PC via Steam. In it, you and up to three other medieval monks must prepare improvised meals and launch them into the gaping maws of hungry kaiju to delay the end of the world. A public playtest is now live, giving players access to the entire game for free until launch.
Developed as part of the studio’s newly revealed “Summer of Strange Scaffold” initiative, Co-Op Kaiju Horror Cooking is as chaotic as it sounds. Think Overcooked by way of Dark Souls, then sprinkle in a little bit of Lovecraftian nonsense and medieval guilt.
Cooking Under Pressure (and Tentacles)
Players take control of monks navigating a twisted, labyrinthine monastery to gather, prepare, and serve improvised dishes to cosmic horrors looming just outside the walls. Using a tag-based cooking system, players can chop, burn, salt, or otherwise “season” ingredients before launching them via a catapult straight into the jaws of doom. There are 13 levels, terrifying enemies, and a heavy dose of existential dread—not to mention a total ban on tomatoes (it’s historically accurate!).
A Feast of Features
- Flexible Cooking Mechanics – Prepare ingredients in different ways for different kaiju cravings.
- Faith and Fear – A story-driven campaign following the monks as their leaders die off and they question their beliefs.
- Multiplayer Mayhem – Up to four players (or more, if you’re brave enough) in Strange Scaffold’s first-ever multiplayer title.
- Epic Soundtrack – Composed by David Mason (Dredge), blending haunting medieval instrumentation with horror tension.
- Monsters as Meals – Not all beasts are just scary—some are dinner.
Try It Now, Help Shape the Final Dish
From now until July 29, you can jump into the free public playtest on Steam to experience the full game early. Strange Scaffold is welcoming all feedback before the official release. This is the latest in a remarkable run for the studio, which has launched seven games in just two years.
The Summer of Strange Scaffold
Alongside this launch, Strange Scaffold is offering a Steam sale and bundle featuring five of its latest games at 30% off, with Co-Op Kaiju Horror Cooking also getting a launch discount. The sale runs from July 16 to August 16.
Plus, two new titles were announced:
- Truck-kun is Supporting Me From Another World?! – An anime-inspired game where driving into things at high speeds becomes an isekai mechanic.
- Space Warlord Baby Trading Simulator – A satirical stock market sim centered around alien infants.
One more mysterious game will be revealed next week, showcasing a unique new developer collaboration.
