Brand-new French indie development studio Toe Bean Club has announced its exciting debut project, and it looks absolutely delightful and relatively unique.
The new game is called Mirage: Miracle Quest, and it’s a turn-based RPG that takes inspiration from magical girl anime like Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura — Toe Bean Club hasn’t named those anime, but the influences are pretty plain to see. You’ll play as Mirage, an adorable cat-like magical girl who is also an exorcist, as you explore the continent of Andafy, which is said to be inspired by Madagascar, France, and Japan, and face off against mysterious creatures.
The game uses a unique turn-based combat system that’s got some deck-building mechanics mixed in, which Toe Bean Club says lets players customize their playstyle and create powerful synergies. You’ll also be able to team up with similarly adorable allies, each of whom has their own personalities, skills, and abilities.
It’s all tied together with an absolutely gorgeous presentation, with a hand-painted art style and some very slick animation to boot. That’s not too surprising, though, given the talent behind the game — developers on the game have worked on animated films from Sony Pictures Animation and French animation studio Remembers, as well as games from Classics F5 and more.
Here’s the full description, courtesy of Toe Bean Club:
Set in a retro-inspired, hand-painted world, players will wander around Andafy, a continent shaped by the vibrant cultures and aesthetics of Madagascar, France, and Japan. They will play as Mirage, a young exorcist whose quiet life is shattered when a mysterious creature ravages her hometown, whispering her grandmother’s name in its final breath. Joined by an endearing cast of allies, Mirage embarks on a perilous quest to embrace her true power and unveil the darkest secrets of the land.
Mirage: Miracle Quest modernizes the classic turn-based RPG combat with deck-building mechanics, letting players customize their playstyle, create powerful synergies, and approach each battle with fresh strategy.
Players will confront formidable foes and guide tormented spirits to peace, as they explore a world brimming with challenges and wonders. On the way they will build relationships with their allies, and forge their path to becoming a true exorcist, as they fight the dark forces threatening to take over the world!
No release date has been set for Mirage: Miracle Quest just yet, nor have platforms beyond Steam. Still, the game’s Steam page is now live and you can wishlist it right now to show your support and get notified when the game releases.
