Monster Hunter Wilds has officially launched after months of anticipation, and Palworld developer Pocketpair has given employees the day off if “they feel unwell”.
In what appears to be completely unrelated to the release CAPCOM’s next entry in the Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter Wilds, Pocketpair (the developers behind PalWorld) has declared today a “special holiday” and has given staff the day off “if they feel unwell”. The memo has been released on the official PocketpairJapan X (formerly Twitter) account, and it can be seen below.
Thanks to Automaton‘s findings (and Google Translate), non-Japanese native speakers can discern what the memo states. The memo says “On 28th February, we received a series of puzzling reports from many employees that they might feel unwell the next day, so we decided to institute a special holiday for the company,” and that special holiday just so happens to land on Monster Hunter Wilds release day. When asked whether or not this memo’ or notion’s intentions were real, Communications Director and Publishing Manager at Pocketpair, Bucky responded with a resounding “Yes” on their official X account, confirming the special holiday has occured.

Interestingly enough, Pocketpair has a history of letting their staff ‘play hooky’ on the release date of big games. When Elden Ring launched in 2022, Pocketpair declared an “Elden Holiday” letting employees off of responsibility’s hook to play FromSoftware’s most recent release. Monster Hunter Wilds has already broken records, becoming CAPCOM’s biggest launch to date. A previous release in the series, Monster Hunter World topped out at an all-time peak of 334,000 (based on Steam alone), so Wilds has far surpassed that.
Monster Hunter Wilds is out today on Xbox Series S/X, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. Fans can check out more information on CAPCOM’s biggest launch on the official website.
