The Veilguard Game Director Departs EA For New Opportunity After 18 Years

On Friday, it has been confirmed Corinne Busche, who served as game director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and worked at EA for nearly two decades is departing the company.

Rumours of Game Director Corinne Busch’s exit were spread on the internet late last evening, ending her nearly two-decade-long tenure at EA. On Friday, the Dragon Age: The Veilguard game director has confirmed the rumours herself in a long-winded statement to Eurogamer. Fans speculated on X (formerly Twitter) it could have something to do with ‘being ousted’ due to the performance of Dragon Age: The Veilguard (the title earned a spot of recognition in CGMagazine’s Game of the Year 2024), but Busch herself has now confirmed the parting was mutual.

Corinne Busch has had a storied career at EA, serving as designer, director, and artist on many projects at EA since starting there in 2005 on Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 as an artist. She then moved on to a designer role for The Sims franchise until signing on as Game Director for Dragon Age: The Veilguard in February 2022.

In the statement, Busch said “I did what I set out to do at BioWare. That is to come in and help right the ship. I love Dragon Age, and BioWare, so the chance to return the game to a proper quality single player RPG was the privilege of a lifetime,” confirming she left on her own accord with “As for me, my departure was voluntary, as I have been presented with an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. I don’t want to say much more right now, but you can count on it being in the CRPG space and upholding the traditions of great characters.”

Although Corinne Busch is leaving EA, she has accepted a new role that she is keeping under wraps for the time being. Busch said she was offered an opportunity building an RPG from the ground up, and it was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up. As of this posting, both the new studio Busch is working for, and the title she is working on remain under wraps and the Director’s LinkedIn page still features her former role at EA. CGMagazine will keep readers posted if new information comes out about the new RPG.
