Theme: The Age of AI: Trust, Truth and the Human Blueprint
Date: September 24, 2025
Venue: DCF Cinema (Dolnośląskie Centrum Filmowe), Wrocław, Poland
The Women in Big Data community marked a powerful milestone with its 10th Anniversary Celebration in Wrocław, Poland. Hosted at the renowned DCF Cinema, the event gathered over 70 data professionals, academics, students, and allies from around the world to reflect on a decade of impact and chart the path forward for women in technology.
The evening blended inspiration, reflection, and future-focused dialogue—an extraordinary way to honor WiBD’s decade-long journey.
Opening: A Global Movement with Local Impact
The event opened with heartfelt remarks from WiBD Co-Founder Tina Tang and WiBD Poland Founder Aga Swiatowa.
“Ten years ago, we started with a conversation. Today, we are a global family,” said Tina Tang. “This anniversary isn’t just about looking back—it’s about celebrating every woman who found her voice, her mentor, or her dream job through this community.”
They articulated WiBD’s dual mission:
-
Globally — to inspire, connect, and advance women in data-driven fields, building an inclusive ecosystem where women lead and innovate.
-
Locally in Poland — to strengthen Poland’s growing tech ecosystem through networking, hands-on workshops, and global visibility.
Keynote: How Data Powers Global Entertainment
The keynote session featured leaders from Netflix — Inna Giguere and Vivek Pasari — offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at how data fuels creativity and infrastructure at one of the world’s biggest streaming platforms.
-
Inna Giguere, Director of Content Data Products, shared how data drives decision-making across the content lifecycle—from negotiations and acquisitions to launch strategies and performance tracking.
“At Netflix, data isn’t just supporting the story—it’s directing the show,” she noted.
-
Vivek Pasari, Engineering Manager for Infrastructure Data Products, highlighted how scalable infrastructure data ensures efficiency, security, and compliance behind the scenes.
“Our infrastructure data products are the silent enablers of efficiency, security, and compliance,” Pasari explained.
Together, their talks illustrated how content strategy and data infrastructure work hand-in-hand to power innovation at global scale.
Tackling AI’s New Frontiers
The agenda delved into some of the most pressing issues in technology today:
Deepfakes and Digital Identity
Karolina Wilamowska’s talk “Fake Me If You Can – How to Protect Your Identity in the Era of Synthetic People” shed light on the rising threat of deepfakes and synthetic media. She demonstrated how easy it is to fabricate convincing fakes and called for a collective response—ethical AI, proactive legislation, and digital literacy.
“The technology to fake us is here. Our mission now is to build the tools, the laws, and the awareness to protect what is authentically, undeniably us.”
Building Future-Ready AI Teams
In “The AI Builder’s Guide,” Aleksandra Teper-Konior and Katarzyna Czesak-Woytala of Aplikacje Krytyczne shared a practical framework for assembling adaptive, high-impact AI teams.
Their key message: technology evolves fast, but human adaptability is the real competitive edge.
“The intelligent team of tomorrow isn’t defined by the AI it uses, but by its capacity for continuous evolution.”
Social Engineering & AI Voice Cloning
Aleks Makuch of Volvo gave a chilling presentation, “The Vishing Redemption,” on the dangers of AI-powered voice phishing. Using audio demos, he showed how difficult it is to distinguish synthetic voices from real ones—underscoring the need to verify, not just trust what we hear.
A Powerful Moment: Another Body Documentary
A screening of the documentary Another Body moved the discussion from technical to deeply personal. The film explores the human cost of deepfake exploitation, making clear that this is not just a technological battle—it’s a fight for dignity and autonomy in the digital age.
Community, Networking & Celebration
Beyond the sessions, the event was filled with vibrant conversations, networking breaks, and shared reflections. Attendees connected during coffee breaks, lunch, and a lively Happy Hours Afterparty powered by Netflix, continuing the discussions at PeDeT.
The atmosphere throughout the day was one of celebration, allyship, and shared purpose—a testament to WiBD’s growing impact in Poland and globally.
Reflections from Volunteers, Attendees & Community Partners
“I’ve attended many different events in the past, but this was the very first time I experienced it all from the organizer’s perspective – building the agenda from scratch, working with speakers, and even collaborating with suppliers on branding materials. Trust me… it isn’t easy-peasy, but today I can definitely say: it’s such a rewarding journey!
“Watching participants exchange ideas, form new networks, and leave with a shared sense of purpose made all the hard work worthwhile. The energy and connection in the room were a reminder of why conversations around AI and disinformation are needed here and now.”
“Energy, inspiration, and true connection — that’s what Women in Big Data Poland is all about. Grateful to grow, create, and be part of this incredible community!”
“Last week, I had the privilege of co-organizing the Women in Big Data Poland Big Data Conference – an event full of energy, inspiring talks and amazing networking opportunities. From data at the heart of decision-making at Netflix to AI & deepfake risks and leadership in times of change, the day was packed with meaningful insights. The closing moment — the screening of ‘Another Body’ — left a lasting impact.”
“Still reflecting on the inspiring Women in Big Data Poland event! It was a great reminder that the world of data and AI is evolving fast — and staying aware through continuous learning is essential. Education, inspiration, and connection are key to navigating these changes together and shaping a more informed future.”
“Attending the Women in Big Data Poland inauguration event was both inspiring and thought-provoking. The discussions around deepfakes, legal gaps, and the evolving role of AI highlighted how important it is to protect our data and approach technology with both curiosity and responsibility. It’s exciting to see such impactful initiatives taking root in Wrocław — here’s to more meaningful conversations and connections ahead! ”
“For our team at ETTA, joining the Women in Big Data 10-Year Anniversary Roadshow in Wrocław was more than just attending another conference — it was stepping into a space filled with inspiration, insight, and connection. From learning how Netflix scales its data operations to exploring how AI is transforming industries, the event offered a real-world view of the challenges and opportunities shaping modern organizations. Huge thanks to WiBD Poland, Aga Swiatowa, Tina Tang, and all the incredible speakers for creating such a powerful and energizing space.”
Looking Ahead
As WiBD enters its next decade, this celebration in Wrocław marked more than an anniversary—it was a rallying call to lead with trust, truth, and human values in the age of AI.
The community left inspired, energized, and ready to shape the next chapter of women’s leadership in data and technology.
